For McGee, creative evolution has never meant finding a comfortable lane. From the sprawling, genre-crossing ambition of The Songstress’ Empire to the meticulously imagined world of Lady of the Moon, her work has become increasingly defined by curiosity, storytelling and an unwillingness to let expectation determine what comes next.
Her latest conceptual chapter moves deep into mythology and world-building, with Lady of the Moon unfolding across eight songs corresponding to the eight phases of the moon. Behind its Black Forest setting, female characters and supernatural mythology lies an extraordinarily detailed creative process—one that reflects McGee’s growing fascination with what becomes possible when songwriting moves beyond autobiography and into imagination.
Following chart recognition in Canada and the United States, multiple New Music Award nominations and her 2026 Country Artist of the Year honor, McGee could easily have remained within familiar territory. Instead, she chose reinvention.
Inside Issue 41, Lifoti goes beyond the accolades to explore the artist behind the evolving vision—her beginnings in songwriting, resistance to genre boundaries, creative independence, visual artistry, the making of Lady of the Moon and the ambitious conceptual territory already shaping what comes next.
